The "Choro" is the first Brazilian music that built an identity. Its subtle rhythms, its heady melodies transport the musicians and the audience in space and time.
The Choro is a Musical genre extremely refined, synthesis of European dances music like Scottish, Waltz, Polka, popular Portuguese music, african and indigenous music (tango, maxixe, xote, baiao ...). At first it was just a sad and melancholic way of interpreting the songs and performers were called "Choroes" ie the "weeping". The Choro only became a musical style in its own in the early 20th century but its history began in the mid 19th century.
